New Alliance to Study Greenhouse Gases in Agriculture

Experts say that agriculture provides fourteen percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emission each year. The gases released include carbon dioxide, a major cause of global warming. Twenty-one nations around the world recently joined forces to better understand and prevent greenhouse gas emissions from farms. The Global Research Alliance of Agricultural Greenhouse Gases was launched at the United Nations conference on climate change.

Agricultural experts blame a number of farm activities for producing greenhouse gases. For example, animal waste and cattle digestive systems release methane gas. Fertilized soil and the burning of crop waste also release harmful gases into the air. Experts say some methods of tilling – turning the soil to prepare for planting –also release harmful carbon dioxide. Some experts suggest that farmers should feed animals a diet designed to reduce methane gas and that the world needs to develop better farming methods to feed growing populations in poor country

It is important to get together for worldwide to reduce the methane gas and greenhouse gases. I think the developed countries must invent method and animal’s food, and they should provide them for developing countries.

Needle Injuries Medical Students Often Go Unreported

For medical students, real experience begins not in a classroom but at a teaching hospital. These doctors in training are supervised. But sometimes accidents happen and the students get injured. They might stick themselves with a needle while treating patients. Such needle sticks are common. But a recent study found that medical students often fail to report them.

In recent, researchers at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Mary Land, did the study. Almost sixty percent of medical students said they had suffered needle stick injuries when they were in medical school. Many said they were stuck more than once. But nearly half of those whose most recent incident happened in school did not report it to an employee health office.

It is scary thing, I feel. This case will lead up to medical error, and most bad case is H.I. V or other infectious disease. Martin Makary, the lead author of the study, said doctors should protect their hands by wearing two sets of gloves. I agree with his opinion, and I wish doctors including medical students should report their injuries and such infectious disease will never happen.

Indonesian Street Kids Find Rescue in Organic Farming

Every year in Indonesia, thousands of rural poor migrate to big cities in hope of finding a better life. But for many of them, the dream never comes true. A private charity, the Learning Farm, is talking the opposite path: teaching former street kids how to grow green; it gives them a chance to succeed in rural communities.
The boys, aged 15 to 22 are attending a five-month program at the Learning Farm to become organic farmers. There is one boy, named Susanto. He is 17-years old. At 14, he says he could no longer tolerate his parents’ beatings, so he fled and joined a group of street kids in the city of Jogjakarta. But Susanto discovered that life held many dangers. After a two-month stint in jail, he took the advice of a graduate from the Learning Farm and decided to join the program.

I think it’s excellent. The program is also contributed to the eco. The agriculture is most important to our daily life, I think. The farm program let the boys stop the violence and quit drugs, and give them the hope of life.

Toyota Apologizes for Massive Auto Recall

The Toyota Motor Corporation says its engineers have solved the accelerator problem that prompted the recall of more than four million of its most popular models. The company apologized to customers on Monday and said repairs will begin as soon as possible. U.S. Toyota sales chief, Jim Lentz issued a formal apology. He said “We are truly sorry for letting them (customers) down, that nothing is more important to us than their satisfaction and that we are more redoubling our efforts to make sure that this can never happen again.”
Toyota’s solution is to add a steel bar to the pedal assembly – eliminating friction that can cause the pedal to stick and cause the pedal to stick and cause cars to accelerate without warning. About three quarters of the affected models were sold in the U.S. The recall was later expanded to include vehicles sold in Europe.

Toyota has established credibility by their certain skills. But once, credibility has lost, it is difficult to recover. I think Toyota is famous in the world, so their mistakes stand out clearly. But car’s problem is so important and big thing, I hope their rapid management.

Sudden Infant Death Tied to Brain Chemical

It is called crib death or SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Parents put a seemingly healthy infant to sleep and return to find the baby gas stopped breathing. The causes remain a mystery, but new research suggests a chemical imbalance in babies’ brains may provide a clue.
Dr. Hanna Kinney of Children’s Hospital in Boston says, “We found that the babies who died of SIDS had abnormalities in serotonin in regions of the brain stem that control breathing and heart rate and blood pressure during sleep.” She explains that when a baby is put face down in a bed, it begins to re-breathe carbon dioxide, which is toxic. And a normal baby could respond to that challenge, lift its head up, turn its head and arouse or wake up, but baby who has a defect in those brain stem circuits that use serotonin can’t do that when challenged and they go on to die. At present, doctors cannot measure the amount of serotonin in a living baby’s brain. But researchers hope that one day they will be able to do that though a simple blood test, and prevent more deaths.

I was afraid when I see this report. I have a nephew, who is one year old. He got swain flue last month, but now he recover his health. I felt that we, adult must to be careful for children’s health. I hope doctors like Dr. Kinney to invent the way of save children.

Haiti Earthquake

A massive earthquake struck 12 January near the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, causing damage across the impoverished region. It is the largest quake to hit the area in 200 years.
Officials estimate the earthquake has killed about 200,000 people and affected an estimated 3 million – about a third of Haiti’s population.
Teams have come from all over the world to provide assistance to the nation, but efforts to distribute aid have been hampered by numerous problems – including blocked roads, bureaucratic confusion and the collapse of local authority.
Although the teams aid, there are many problems in Haiti. One of the problems is shortage of food. Now, water is available, but the process of getting it is not always smooth. An angry crowd stands outside the office of the local aid organization in charge of water distribution, and that they desperately need more food, tents, and medical supplies.
I hope that United Nation’s team will save Haitian people’s security and health. And people should get together to save without nation, border, or boring conflict.

Workers in microchip implant trial

An American company has started piloting a controversial new program aimed at increasing security. Three workers from City Watcher.com, a surveillance equipment provider, have volunteered to be electronically monitored via a silicon chip implanted in their arms. The chips will emit radio signals that will provide information to a central monitoring system that will allow the workers access to secure areas of the workplace.

Sean Darks, CEO of City Watcher, said the glass-encased chips were more like identity cards that are inserted inside the recipient’s body. He said it was different from Global Positioning Satellite technology, which allows the tracking and monitoring of a person’s whereabouts.

If the micro chips which show someone’s location, ID, or something is in the human body, I think the world will become safer than current world. If so, people who are likely to do some crimes will be watched by the government or company. But, I think this system ignores private problem. If this system insert, we will watched from the authority, and we have no private time.
